Israeli dance is far more than movement. It is a story, memory, community, and living culture. Therefore, the Association for the Documentation and Preservation of Israeli Dance was founded – a new initiative connecting the past, present, and future of Israeli dance.

The Association is an open home for dancers, choreographers, instructors, dance companies, and for everyone for whom Israeli dance is part of their cultural DNA.

The launch and the road ahead

We celebrated the launch of the Association with an exciting dance marathon on Friday, September 5, 2025, as hundreds of dancers filled the floor with energy, joy, and love for dance.

The following Friday, we continued with a festive folk-dance training seminar – a professional, inspiring gathering for the dance community.

Why is this association important now?

Because dances are disappearing. Because knowledge is being lost. Because the next generation needs access, documentation, and continuity.

Founded at the end of 2024, the Association has one clear goal: to collect, document, preserve, and make accessible Israeli dance in all its forms.

Videos, photographs, documents, choreographic notes, and teaching methodologies will be gathered into a living, open archive serving teachers, creators, researchers, and dancers – today and in the future.

What do we do?

• Comprehensive documentation of Israeli folk dances and stage works.
• Development of a central digital website and archive featuring videos, photos, texts, and professional data.
• Creation of a database of dance instructors and choreographers in Israel and worldwide, enabling connection, learning, and collaboration.
• Support for dance companies, festivals, events, and the training of new creators – ensuring that Israeli dance not only survives but continues to grow and evolve.
